A few London photos

The last in my series of posts from London, just a few photos that weren’t taken in galleries or museums.

London has some great public transport for getting around, as long as you can climb stairs. I am still surprised how inaccessible a most tube stations are. There just aren’t options other than stairs at a lot of them. Maps include details if the stations have accessible platforms, and many around the centre just don’t.

Most days we’d walk to one of a few buses that would then take us to one of a few stations depending which line we wanted. Once I was in the city I would just walk (slowly) everywhere, despite the prevalence of rental bikes.

In our planning when booked tickets for the London Eye (or whatever it is called now) on different days, figuring someone would go up on each day and we’d get some clear weather at least once.

The big wheel thing does give you great views, when it isn’t raining.

One … an entirely different day(?) we went up Sky Garden. A “garden” and bar in The Fenchurch Building. We booked a table (which is free to do with a minimum drink order) that would guarantee entry. You can go up without a reservation, but if it’s busy you might not be able to.

The food and drinks were (unsurprisingly) over priced, and not that great, it’s all bar / finger food. It was the type of establishment where a group of corporate people from The City would meet for over priced drinks and hand out plaques to each other extolling how great they all were.

We were there only for the views.

Bonus, St Paul’s

On one of our last days in London all of us headed off to St Paul’s. Dad wanted to record some pieces to camera for one of his films.

I hadn’t been in St Paul’s this trip. It is free to attend a service in St Paul’s, but if you want to attend outside of that and take photos you need to pay for a ticket, and the tickets aren’t cheap. Dad offered to pay for my ticket if I took some B-roll footage for him to use in a film, a fair deal, for me.

It probably is worth the price of admission, especially if someone else is paying for it.
